The state Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA), passed into law several years ago, requires that a network of marine protected areas be put in to place in California in order to ensure that California's marine environment is healthy for future generations.

Much good information about the MLPA can be found on the California Department of Fish & Game's website at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mrd/mlpa

Recommendations about the specific placement of these marine protected areas, which level of protection each area will have, and when these areas should be phased into place will be made by MLPA Regional Working Groups. Our MLPA Regional Working Group encompasses Point Dume to the US/Mexican border and is comprised of 18 individuals representing various user groups (from commercial fisheries through to environmentalists, and including divers). I am one of several diver representatives on this group.

An integral part of being on the MLPA Regional Working Groups is representing a constituency. I need to get information out to divers in LA/Orange/San Diego as well as get feedback from divers in that geography. This is why I'm asking for contact information. My intention is to build up a large list of diver contacts and then, when issues come up, ask everyone what they think about the issue so that I can then go in and properly represent you all.

As with everything I do, your contact information will not be used for any other purpose nor will it be used for any commercial purpose.
